Who, What, Where?
Art has a different definition to everyone, but ultimately, art is freedom. Art can be anything a person creates whether if it is expressing their feelings, beliefs, and thoughts, or something they find aesthetically pleasing. Art is a visual representation of who the artist is. Art has progressed, changed, and expanded in many ways since 25,000 BCE. Art depends on the era it was created during, the culture in which it was created, and the person who created it.
Time has changed everything on Earth. Things continue to evolve, just like art. Art originally was for mainly religious reasons and now it can be anything from decorative to political cartoons. Rather than only sculptures and paintings of animals, we have portraits and street art. The era a piece of art is made, helps art historians understand why the art was created. People tend to create art based on things they are surrounded by, or what they care about. These can vary depending on when the artist was alive/ when they created the art.
Many cultures create specific types of art. The religion of a culture will heavily effect the art they make, because people want to please the Lord they believe in. Some cultures are against certain behaviors, such as, dancing and singing so their art will be conservative and more basic, while another culture may be more open to new things and their art will be unique and free. The rules and laws of a culture or place can influence the creation of art. Places with lots of money will have expensive tools and mediums, while poorer places may use cheaper materials.
Art is created because someone decided to get up and make it. People see their surroundings and believe in certain things and create visual representations of their thoughts and how they specifically view them. Art shows us the artist's opinion of the subject they made. The artist has the power to make anything seem like how they imagine it.
Art is constantly changing due to time, place, and people. We learn new information every day which means there are more things to create art about and more ways to make it. Depending on where you are, might affect what you decide to make your art about. The person who creates it has the power to make whatever they want. The job of an artist is to create something to manipulate how the viewer will interpret it. The great thing about art is that it can be anything and everything.
This is a revised version of the essay I wrote at the beginning of the year. I agree with everything I said, but now after learning about so many artworks in many different time periods, I am able to appreciate and understand art better than before. Creating art and architecture can take many steps and I now know that where before I never really thought about it. WHenever I saw art I just only thought about the final product instead of the journey it took to create such an artpiece.
