Ms. Park: 1/16/16 Barcelona, SpainI was absolutely breathless as I stepped out of the subway and laid eyes on Gaudi's Sagrada Familia. I can't fully describe the architecture, organic lines, the luminous colors, odd spaces. Such a mix of different styles that it doesn't look like it's all part of the same structure.

Ms. Park: April 2014 London, EnglandI did not explore London like I really wanted to. We were here for a few short days but one of the best parts was high tea at Fortnum and Mason. Exquisitely presented (an art of its own), beautiful porcelain, and a great time with colleagues from my VAPA department, Mr. Hayden and Mr. McCormick, and our vp, Ms. Hofreiter.

Ms. Park: April, 2014 Paris, FranceOf course, I took time to appreciate, admire, and really look at this small portrait...but not before I took a selfie with my girl Lisa, Mona Lisa that is, just like millions of other tourists who visit her at the Louvre in Paris in 2013. As an art history teacher, traveler, and human of this planet, this was one of the best moments to experience. We put such a high value, financially and socially, on certain artworks and monuments. They appear in all sorts of ways in popular culture and they just seem so abstract. I was actually here, standing in front of the Mona Lisa looking straight into her eyes. It makes all the difference to physically view artworks that are put on such a pedestal and seem so intangible.

Ms. Park: July 2011, July 2012, November 2012
Surprisingly, I have been to China more times, a total of about 4 months there, than any other country...maybe more times than I would have liked. Highlights: The Great Wall of China, seeing so much of this country including rural farm towns, Shanghai and the Wall Street Bull or Charging Bull, being a spokesmodel for a China based high-end beauty company called Ausdina, and my best friend's wedding in Hangzhou.

Ms. Park: 1/18/2010 Siem Reap, CambodiaCambodia was my first time out of the country. It was my last year of college and traveled with six other students in my education cohort. Our main destination was Phnom Penh, the capital, where we were set up with additional students from Paññāsāstra University to create art programs at various NGOs and orphanages around the city. It was and still is the most exciting, rewarding, and magical travel experience. I fell in love with the city, the people, and the culture. I made bonds with children like I never have before and I will always remember their sweet faces and welcoming hugs every day.
We did take a weekend to travel north to Siem Reap and visit the medieval palace of Angkor Wat and neighboring temples. |
