You may refer to your aesthetics handout from the beginning of the class.

** 2nd portion (published) Re-evaluate what is art. Turn in a 1 page, single spaced essay taking into consideration what you have learned over the past school year.

Answer the not so simple question, "What is art?".

Take a position. That position will ultimately be your thesis. You may have several ideas or thesis statements but choose one umbrella idea and create sub-topics.
Use examples to prove a point. They should be art related, as best you can.
You may reference "Philosophical Aesthetics". Please give proper credit. If you do use outside sources for information, you must include a works cited page in addition to content.
Think of a "tag line." A catchy phrase or a short sentence that somes up your philosophy of art.

Think about the following questions:

What is aesthetics?
Do you have to "like" the artwork to appreciate it?
Does art need to be beautiful?
What determines the meaning of art?
Are cultures reflected in artworks or do artworks reflect the culture?
Should art have a purpose?
If art is expressive, in what ways? Does art have to evoke emotion to be art?
Does art make us better as people?
Under what criteria or circumstances or who determines what art is.
What, if anything, is the difference between art and craft?
Who can make art?
