What is Art?
Although there is a concrete definition of art, I do not believe you can confine art into words. Art is much more than a compilation of words selected from a thick dictionary of unused and forgot letters randomly combined, it is abstract, foreign but familiar all at the same time. Previously, the purpose of art has been unknown, and then it was used to document history and today, it is used for all purposes, each purpose different for the individual. Some people create art, some collect, and others simply observe, but in the end, art is the truth.
Art has gone through many purposes and continues to change today. Art is somehow still relevant and that is because it is always changing. Everyday, a new form of art appears. From food to street art to architecture, it is all a different media used to express oneself. Some people will consider it art, but others would not. Despite these differences, art can relate to everyone. Because no matter who the artist is, or what the intended use is, it has the ability it influence people. Art has the ability to evoke emotions or thoughts that were before hidden, therefore bringing out the truth in people. This truth might not always be relevant, but it is always influential, sometimes in the moment, and other times in the long run.
When people bring up art, most people, including me, instantly think of paintings and occasionally sculptures, however, art is much more then that. Art includes fashion, music, food, performances, photography and much more. All of these unique forms of art are different, but none more important that the other. This was not always true, and not too long ago, photography, along with other techniques, were not considered an art. But as our world has evolved, a modern society comes modern art forms. Unlike older art, these more recent forms have less guidelines and standards they have to live up to, causing them to be pure and untainted with previous influences.
Through the course of the year, by opinion on art has not changed, but my perception of it has. The purpose is still to convey the truth, but there are many different ways to do it. I never expected art to adapt, but it is a reflection of the current culture. No matter how simple, it can make people view things in a different light, and open the world up to new possibilities. his change does not make the art less true, however, the truth simply adapts to the current time period.
All of this freedom turns what was options, now into rules. Rules about how to present this new found freedom. There has been so much art in history, that simply being original is no longer good enough. All new art has to be ahead of the trend, and unlike others, while still fitting in. Art will always be the truth, but how we create the truth will forever change.
