Romulus and Remus were raised by wolves
Romulus killed Remus and founded Rome’s walls
Centuries later, Caesar rose to power
Ridden in fear, his enemies cower
Caesar took his army across the river
But Brutus alone would not shiver
Brutus with his boys and his knife
With 23 stabs, they took Caesar's life
“Et tu Brute?”, Caesar gasped
As into civil war, the republic collapsed.
Rising from the carnage came Augustus
Rome’s first emperor, he brought justice
To show that he was truly of the elite
He commissioned a statue with cupid at his feet
With this there was no doubt he had divine connection
Of victories past, his armor depicts a collection
With his right arm raised like The Orator
He commanded his army to bring Rome together
Under Nero’s reign, a great fire roared
Architects thought fireproofing, they needed more
Mixing water and cement, they made concrete
Fireproof, waterproof, and best of all cheap
The overly extravagant, outrageous king Nero
had his new palace built at ground zero
After King Nero took his own life
The empire relapsed back into strife
He who emerged victorious was Vespasian
Who brought to the forefront the dynasty of the Flavians
Over Nero’s old lake, they constructed the coliseum
wanna see gladiators? this is where you’d see ‘em
Domitian made an arch, Titus’s triumphs to applaud
showing interaction between him and the gods
The relief showed his victory in Judaea
And his triumphal parade down the sacred Way-uh
Backing the sacking of Jerusalem were
divine manifestations of Honor and Valor
Domitian’s extravagancy resembled that of Nero’s
But luckily came Trajan, a true Roman hero
To glorify his victories, Trajan made a forum
In the middle of which, was Trajan’s column
A continuous spiral narrative frieze
Showed how Trajan crushed the Dacians with ease
The successor chosen by Trajan
Was a fellow spaniard by the name of Hadrian
Under Hadrian's rule, the Pantheon was made
Which showed the full potential of concrete when laid
Inside the dome, a perfect sphere could fit
With the oculus in the center keeping it well lit
Marcus Aurelius, dwarfing his horse,
The gigantic bronze statue conveyed his force
Though his body shows great confidence,
His face depicts a different, sad kind of cadence
Diocletian, split Rome into east and west
And Rome once again became a great mess.
Decades after came the ruler Constantine
Whose glorious arch, from other rulers gleaned
On it, he replaced their heads with his own,
And now the arch depicted only him and his clones
After Constantine, came late antiquity
And with it came the emergence of Christianity
